SOFEC, Inc. is a leader in the development and supply of Single-Point Mooring (SPM) systems, and is engaged in research involving new and improved tanker mooring systems and associated components. Projects range from preliminary design studies to major engineering, fabrication, and procurement projects that include installation and commission. Projects supplied by SOFEC include marine terminals for product import / export, turrets, tower yoke and spread moorings for tanker based floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO / FSO) systems installed in water depths ranging from 30 feet to 5,000 ft. SOFEC is currently looking for a Mooring Integrity Engineer.

The Mooring Integrity Engineer will provide Support to the Asset Integrity Group, specific to Anchor Leg Mooring Systems:

• Mooring inspection support.

• Integrity (fit-for-service) assessments following inspections.

• Mooring integrity strategy & management plan development.

• Mooring monitoring data analytics & database administration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support our operating clients with the development of their mooring integrity management plans and inspection scopes.
  • Develop inspection work packs based on mooring configuration, integrity management plan and previous history of inspections and anomalies. Maintain a library of standardized inspection methods, for implementation into the work packs.
  • Review received inspection data and maintain a mooring inspection database.
  • Perform detailed assessments on the condition of the mooring systems, based on inspection data and monitoring data. Assess the condition of the components, and the overall performance of the system.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of mooring system and component degradation modes and integrity issues, as well as methods to detect and characterize them.
  • Work closely with the mooring group, and share feedback from (operational) lessons learned to improve mooring design practices.
  • Stay up-to date with subsea inspection techniques and tools. Engage with suppliers and service providers on new developments and best practices.
  • Develop digital routines (algorithms) for frequent assessment tasks (python, Matlab, or similar coding)
  • Specify and support the development of mooring monitoring systems through project execution in EPC phases (from engineering through procurement), to be implemented on the floating facilities which SOFEC supplies mooring systems to.
  • Identifies and solves problems in an effective and measured way. Researches and develops technical solutions to meet business needs.
  • Effectively presents options and recommendations to stakeholders and challenges them where needed to ensure cost effectiveness of solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Process, Ocean, Marine, etc.)

1-4 years of hands-on experience in offshore, marine, pipeline, or otherwise relevant field, in either of the following capacities:

  • Engineering
  • Operations support
  • Asset and integrity management
  • Data analytics

Preferred experiences include:

  • Inspection, monitoring, and condition assessments.
  • Marine or Subsea construction or operations

Knowledge Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards, such as ABS, DNV, API, ISO, etc.
  • Digitally inclined: Data cleaning and evaluation, database administration, pyhton coding, and visualizations are preferred skillsets.
  • Preferred knowledge include:
  • Mooring systems and components

Language(s) and Software:

  • Communication / Interpersonal: Communicates effectively (in English) within and across functions.
  • Proficient with the standard Microsoft suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc).
  • Preferably skilled in one or more programming languages (such as Matlab, or Python)
  • Preferably skilled with OrcaFlex or other typical mooring analysis software.
